Breville BOV800XL Toaster Oven Review

The Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven is a top of the line convection toaster oven from one of the top manufacturers. This thing is amazingly robust - it's nearly a complete oven replacement in a small, compact package. I'm in love with this machine! Here is a look at the BOV800XL's product specifications:

Let me start off by saying the BOV800XL is a beast! It's pretty huge for a toaster oven, but it's amazingly versatile because of this. The design is very sleek and attractive, and you can tell that a lot of engineering was put into both the design and the functionality. I feel that I need to mention this, although it's not entirely important: the packaging used for the BOV800XL is amazing. It's a lot like an Apple product, with attractive graphics on the recyclable box. It's very cool. Breville BOV800XL Cooking The best thing about this toaster oven is that it can do almost anything that your regular oven can, in a much more energy-efficient way. The "Smart Oven" and "Element IQ" technologies are designed to be as energy-efficient as possible. I really love the Element IQ in particular - it's a unique feature to the high-end Breville toaster ovens, which automatically varies the various cooking features with sensors. The 5 elements all have a varied wattage that the Element IQ can control; it's sort of like a light switch dimmer, where it will put the cooking temperature at the precise level needed. It's almost futuristic.;)

The interior is huge. It can fit a 12" x 12" baking pan, or a 13" pizza pan, both of which are included. To give you an example, that's big enough to bake 12 cupcakes; basically the size of a standard oven baking sheet. The interior is huge. It cooks wonderfully, too, thanks especially to the previously mentioned features as well as the convection fan. When I used the convection function, it really did cook a lot faster, which is not only convenient but saves a lot of time and electricity.

Breville BOV800XL Included Accessories

The BOV800XL comes with a number of different accessories. Included are several baking sheets: a pizza pan, a baking pan and a broil pan, all of which are coated in a high-quality enamel and stand up well after long usage. If you have baking sheets and accessories that you use in your standard range oven, they will most likely be compatible with the BOV800XL, too. It also has a removable crumb tray to make cleaning up easier. Another cool thing about this toaster oven is that the door has magnetized areas that pull the oven rack out about half way when you open the door. It's a nice concept, because it prevents you from potentially burning your hands, which is always something to be concerned about when using a toaster oven.

Breville BOV800XL Display & Controls

The Breville BOV800XL has a nice, big backlit LCD screen. It's great if you're a bit near-sighted, like I am, because it's very easy to read. The controls are all digital, which is always a great thing to have, because you can set everything, including the temperature, to be exactly what you want it to be. The temperature, time and function controls are knobs, similar to stereo control knobs, which is a nice improvement over the standard digital buttons that have you standing there hitting them over and over. It's all very intuitive and easy to use; you'll have no trouble getting it working without even needing to look at the instruction manual.

The Good:

Very full-functioned machine; can easily replace your full-sized oven
Element IQ automatic cooking feature is awesome
Digital controls and display are easy to use and
Overall design is very sleek and the unit itself is very high quality

The Bad:

A small interior light would have been helpful
A bit expensive, but again, this is a high end toaster oven

This Toaster Oven is For:

People who want a small unit that can truly replace the need for a full-sized oven
Those looking for a quality, high-end toaster oven that is built to last

Final Verdict? This is easily the best toaster oven on the market, and by far my favorite. If you're willing to spend the money on a high end toaster oven, you'll absolutely love the BOV800XL. This thing puts all other toaster ovens to shame... it's just that good.
